در دلِ دشت‌های هموارِ روستایی شرق انگلیا، ویکِن فِن آرمیده است، تالابی که به خاطر آسمان‌های وسیع و موجوداتِ ریزش، بسیار دوست‌داشتنی است و بیش از ۹۰۰۰ گونهٔ ثبت‌شده را در خود جای داده است. این پناهگاهِ حیاتِ وحش، به مدت ۱۲۵ سال است که توسط نشنال تراست (National Trust) مورد مراقبت قرار می‌گیرد. یک تیمِ متخصص از این تالابِ ارزشمندِ بین‌المللی نگهداری می‌کنند، با گله‌های اسب و گاوِ آزادانه در حال چرا همکاری می‌کنند و با تمامِ قوا با عناصرِ طبیعی دست و پنجه نرم می‌کنند تا با خلاقیت با اتفاقاتِ هیجان‌انگیزِ زندگی در فضای باز و در خطِ مقدمِ حفاظت از محیط زیست، مقابله کنند.

“خاطراتِ تالاب” گزارشی فصلی از زندگی یک محیط‌بان در ویکِن فِن است، تلاشی برای نجاتِ منظره‌ای که زمانی گسترده بود و اکنون طیفی از احساسات را در این فرآیند آشکار می‌کند. اَجِی، روح و فضای حاکم بر فِن‌ها را به اشتراک می‌گذارد و بینشی از مزایا و فشارهای مدیریت حیوانات نیمه‌وحشی در یکی از اولین پروژه‌های احیای تالاب در کشور ارائه می‌دهد؛ فضایی حیاتی برای تنفسِ طبیعت و انسان‌ها به طور یکسان.

Tucked away in the flat lands of rural East Anglia lies Wicken Fen, so loved for its big skies and tiny creatures, boasting over 9,000 recorded species. For 125 years, this wildlife sanctuary has been cared for by the National Trust. A dedicated team look after this precious wetland of international importance, working with herds of free-roaming horses and cattle and weathering the elements to cope creatively with the dramas of a life outdoors at the cutting edge of conservation.

Wetland Diaries is a seasonal account of ranger life on Wicken Fen, saving a once widespread landscape and revealing the spectrum of emotions experienced in the process. Ajay shares the spirit and atmosphere of the Fens, offering an insight into the privileges and pressures of managing semi-wild animals in one of the country’s first wetland restoration projects, creating precious breathing space for nature and people alike.
