در کتاب *فلسفه‌ی زباله‌دانی*، مایکل ماردر با کاوش در حوزه‌های فلسفه، الهیات، بوم‌شناسی، روان‌شناسی و هنر، استدلال می‌کند که زمین، به همراه تمام موجوداتی که بر آن زندگی می‌کنند و می‌اندیشند، در مرحله‌ی پیشرفته‌ای از تبدیل شدن به زباله‌دانی برای تولیدات صنعتی و فرآورده‌های جانبی آن است؛ زباله‌دانی‌ای که مصرف‌گرایی و زیاده‌روی‌های ناشی از آن را تغذیه می‌کند.
